I agree with what Hilda has to say about the concept of feminism and find it interesting that certain concepts are based on decade ago beliefs. I makes me want to scream and say "Hello! Welcome to the 21st century"! The part that makes me more upset is that its part based on the concept of monogamous marriages so men could identify offspring. These days they make tests for that.

After reading the article about medical training and gender inequality, I can’t think of other ways in which gender differences were neglected. I believe the article covered that well. I was interested to learn the desensitizing methods used by the students when it came to the body so they could treat their patient better, but I was also interested to learn how males and females have to do this but females have more of an issue when it come to sexual harassment between coworkers rather then patient and doctor. When it comes to bias it does affect everyday lives especially when an individual is trying to make a living, but their work environment is hard to work in.

I have often marveled at how my roles in life are ever evolving. I am very blessed to be a wife, mother, sister, daughter, aunt, niece, friend, student, employee, manager and the list goes on. I have found that once you assume a new role, the social interaction initially displayed has a direct impression on how you are perceived in that role. Basically, the first impression as the social actor is the most important impression you make for your audience. It is difficult to shift out of the role as the victim or submissive in the mind of a bully. The respect of your peers is very difficult to earn back if you have demonstrated incompetence and so on.

If a student is not paying out of his own pocket for his education, it’s more likely a student will miss class. Furthermore, the student’s age determines his maturity and sense of responsibility to meet his/her obligation to attend a class he/she enrolled in.


In Chapter 2 Socialization and Culture is not making reference to chronological age but rather the way people act that determines the conformity to societal norms in line with culture for a given geographic location.

I agree with “acting your age” based on the expectations of society to keep order and respect for one another. If individuals are not held accountable for their actions, we would not have a society with norms and expectations and therefore, we would have unrest and more outlaws if everyone can act any way they want.

My name is Leah. I am a 38 year old mother of four. I have four teenagers, 19, 18, 17, & 16, some of the greatest kids EVER!!! I am in the middle of a pretty ugly divorce, my X and I were married for 20 years. I myself have been a stay at home mom for 20 years as well. I just got my G.E.D. on January 5th, 2009, and started classes at C.O.D. immediately. I am looking for a career, now that my "mom" career is coming to an end. I am also looking for work, as I need to take care of MYSELF now. I will be going into the Adult Fast Track program in the Fall. I'm pretty sure that I will be studying to become a Paralegal.
My life has not been the easiest, but I am who I am today because of it. I dropped out of high school my senior year, and shortly after, was pregnant with my first child. I wouldn't change a whole lot about my life, except for not making sure I had a backup plan, in case I was ever on my own. Well, the plan is in place now, and I'm excited about earning at least an Associate's Degree. I NEVER thought that I would go back to school, because I never liked it. I find myself enjoying the heck out of being in College, even the homework, how very odd. I am determined to do well, and I am determined to finish.
My children are my life. My 19 year old is attending the University of Illinois-Champaigne, and doing very well. My 18 year old will be enrolling at C.O.D. in the fall. All 3 of us will be going to college, I just love it ! My two younger kids will still be in high school, a senior and a junior. It won't be long before four of us will be in college. The following year, ALL 5 of us will be attending college. It's truly unreal how fast time flies. I am looking forward to the future and what it holds for all of us. I am also looking forward to all of us being successful and happy.
